- W-model, H-model, and PH-model based NLE is presented theoretically in short reach system.
- Different NLEs are investigated in PAM and CAP simulation system and a 28Â Gb/s CAP16 experiment system.
- A trade off model that H-model is found. It has fewer coefficients and performs better than W-model.
In this paper, we present Wiener model (W-model), Hammerstein model (H-model), and parallel Hammerstein model (PH-model) based equalization schemes, which are the reduction of general Volterra series model, for the nonlinear distortions compensation in short reach optical transmission. The principle of each model is presented and the performance of these Volterra-class models based NLEs are investigated through pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and carriless amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) simulation system. A 28Â Gb/s CAP16 experiment system over 15Â km fiber link is also demonstrated using the proposed NLEs. Finally, a comparison of performance and complexity using different NLEs is conducted.
