Non-toxic and clean crosslinking system for protein materials: Effect of extenders on crosslinking performance

A non-toxic and effective cross-linking system based on citric acid, featuring polyols as cross-linking extenders is developed. The structure of extender had a remarkable impact on cross-linking performance. Extenders with 3 or 4 carbons and 3 to 4 hydroxyl groups showed the best effect.142
