- A recent article in JAMA by Jha and Topol discusses the potential combined impact of digital images and artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of pathology and radiology
- The future of possibilities for artificial intelligence in the field of clinical biochemistry are numerous, particularly in the context of multi-analyte panels for metabolites, proteins, and genes
- Automated interpretations may add to and refine existing roles, but AI will have a limited impact on the interpretative role of Clinical Biochemists/Clinical Chemists, because that role is currently limited
- In clinical biochemistry/clinical chemistry, interpretative algorithms and large datasets are likely to be of immediate use for quality, standardization, and reference intervals
- Expert systems could be used in the near future to simplify interpretation of rare and complicated disease workups
