Évaluation des connaissances et des formations à la « Transfusion sanguine en situation d'exception » des médecins anesthésistes-réanimateurs et infirmiers anesthésistes diplômés d'État du service de santé des armées

Blood transfusion in exceptional circumstances represents somehow a logistical and therapeutic challenge. Indeed, case-management of war casualties, including possible mass casualties, can not be improvised. Therefore, such situations require specific training for anaesthesiologists and anaesthetic nurses and doctors of the French Military Health Service. We report a study conducted in 2011, based on the level of knowledge of anaesthesiologists and anaesthetic nurses and doctors regarding blood transfusion specific skills. The study was carried out before and after a training on blood transfusion in exceptional situation, provided by the French Military Blood Institute. Based on evaluations of nearly 120 anaesthesiologists and anaesthetic, the study highlighted a lack of knowledge on blood transfusion specificities both in mainland and in overseas operations. The blood transfusion training in exceptional situation was deemed necessary by most trainees, and therefore received a high satisfaction rate, as well as proposals for improvement, all of which were taken into account.
