The paper deals with a parallel implementation of a mixed-hybrid finite element method for anisotropic plate bending problems with different boundary conditions. The mixed-hybrid method gives a simultaneous approximation to bending/twisting moments and deflection fields in the interior of each triangle and traces of displacement field and its normal derivative on sides of each triangle. Efficient parallel implementation procedures have been developed and the results of numerical experiments with time, speed-up comparisons on some aniso-/ortho-/isotropic plates of practical and research interest are given.
Highlight
► We present a parallel implementation of a mixed-hybrid finite element method.
► Anisotropic plate bending problems are solved using this method.
► We use compressed data structures and have proposed efficient parallel strategies.
► Results have been presented in terms of run time and speed up/efficiency factors.
► Proposed approaches yield improved results as depicted by the test problems.
