Mesocosm study on weathering characteristics of Iranian Heavy crude oil with and without dispersants

► An in situ mesocosm was used for long-term monitoring of spilled oil at sea. ► An oil spill dispersant changed behavior of the oil in the sea. ► Physical weathering was dominant weathering process during 77 days exposure at sea. ► Mass balance calculation suggested the revision of WAF and CEWAF protocol.
