► Molecularly imprinted photocatalyst was prepared by substrate analog template. ► A group of chlorophenols was rapidly mineralized on the imprinted photocatalysts. ► Detection of organochlorine on CPs was achieved based on the complete dechlorination. ► Total organochlorine might be used to estimate the toxicity and persistence of CPs.
