Recovery of iron from zinc leaching residue by selective reduction roasting with carbon

► The zinc ferrite was selectively transformed to ZnO and Fe3O4 under weak reduction atmosphere. ► An innovative technological process for simultaneously recovering iron and zinc is proposed. ► The iron grade reaches 58.6% with iron and zinc recovery of 68.4% and 86.4%, respectively.
