The use of chitosan as a coagulant in the pre-treatment of turbid sea water

► Chitosan worked well in alkaline medium to remove turbidity from sea water. ► The final turbidity of the sea water after treatment using chitosan followed by filtration was very low (0.433 NTU). ► The performance of chitosan was better than that of ferrous sulfate and comparable to alum.
