► Mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites highly efficiently degrade various dyes, MC-LR. ► The degradation activities of mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 are much higher than that of P25. ► The mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites are considerably stable and reusable. ► The dyes are not only decolorized promptly but degraded readily as well. ► Mesoporous TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposites exhibit extensive and promising application.
