A green strategy for desorption of trihalomethanes adsorbed by humin and reuse of the fixed bed column

► New technique using humin on sodium silicate as an adsorbent for THM in water. ► Thermal desorption enables adsorbent recycling and THM recovery. ► Extraction efficiencies of 45.9-90.1% for individual THM compounds. ► Adsorptive capacity of the fixed bed increased after multiple recycling. ► Order of selectivity of the adsorbent for THM was CHBr3 > CHBr2Cl > CHBrCl2 > CHCl3.
