Adsorption and desorption performance of benzene over hierarchically structured carbon-silica aerogel composites

► Carbon-silica aerogel (CSA) composites were used to remove VOCs for the first time. ► CSA composites were synthesized via sol-gel processing and ambient pressure drying. ► CSA composites exhibit excellent adsorption and desorption performance for VOCs.
