► Quality aspects and nutritional composition of reindeer meat from Norway were examined ► Reindeer meat quality was compared with meat quality from New Zealand red deer ► Reindeer meat was tender, with good water holding capacity and poor colour stability ► The highest antioxidant capacity and taurine content were found in reindeer meat
