Activation of the alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAchR) reverses referred mechanical hyperalgesia induced by colonic inflammation in mice

► α7 nAchR activation did not inhibit established colonic inflammation induced by DSS. ► α7 nAchR activation inhibited referred hyperalgesia caused by colonic inflammation. ► α7 nAchR agonists might be used to treat pain and discomfort associated with IBDs.
