Region-specific elevation of D1 receptor-mediated neurotransmission in the nucleus accumbens of SHR, a rat model of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder

► Brain mapping of Fos expression in combination with behavioral tests was performed in SHR. ► SHR showed hyperactivity as compared with WKY. ► Fos expression was region-specifically elevated in the SHR accumbens. ► SCH-23390 reversed behavioral hyperactivity of SHR. ► SCH-23390 also attenuated the elevated Fos expression in the SHR accumbens.
