Inhibition of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, toxicological and chemical profile of Calophyllum brasiliense extracts from Chiapas, Mexico

► Calophyllum brasiliense hexane extract inhibited HIV-1 Reverse Transcriptase. ► It was not toxic i.p. to mice. ► No histopathological alterations were observed on liver and spleen. ► Analyzed by HPLC it showed to contain calanolides B and C. ► The extract is suitable to continue studies for developing a phytodrug against HIV-1.
