Hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of porcine plasma protein hydrolysates on carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage in rats

► Porcine plasma protein hydrolysate (PPH) was prepared by alcalase. ► Pre-treatment male rats with PPH could reduce CCl4 induced liver damage. ► The mechanisms of liver protection of PPH were studied. ► PPH could increase the activities of antioxidatant enzymes of the liver. ► Liver histopathology showed PPH reduced the incidence of liver lesions in rats.
