Effect of garlic sulfur compounds on neutrophil infiltration and damage to the intestinal mucosa by endotoxin in rats

► We investigate three garlic sulfur compounds (GSCs) on endotoxin-injected rats. ► All GSCs reversed endotoxin-induced intestinal damage and neutrophil infiltration. ► Differential effects present among GSCs on serum and tissue inflammatory indicators. ► The GSCs with more sulfur atom number showed to have less protective effect. ► Possible cytotoxicity of certain GSCs on the gut epithelium warrants further study.
