SummaryThe literature on intermittent positive-pressure breathing is sparse. It does, however, testify to benefit for clearance in patients with respiratory restriction, by increasing peak expiratory flow in cough following insufflation. It highlights the interest of implementing the technique by varying patient positioning, notably in lateral decubitus. Long-term application has not been shown to improve the parameters of lung function or the respiratory mechanism. It highlights application in the management of postoperative atelectasis.Level of evidenceNot applicable.
