Isolation and characterization of a population of stem-like progenitor cells from an atypical meningioma

► Tumor-initiating cells derived from an atypical meningioma have been identified. ► These meningioma-initiating cells have the ability to self-renew and differentiate. ► Microarray studies identified aberrant cell-cycle genes CDKN2A, p14ARF, and CDKN2B. ► CD44 and ALCAM/CD166 may be biomarkers for meningioma-initiating cells. ► Meningioma-initiating cells are useful for modeling meningioma development.
