► The studies on association of IL-10 polymorphisms and asthma risk remained contradictory. ► This study demonstrated that there were probably associations between the IL-10 promoter polymorphisms and asthma risk. ► In the future, gene-gene and gene-environment interactions studies based on larger sample size are still needed.
