Differences in lipid distribution and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and lipoprotein lipase genes in torafugu and red seabream

► Torafugu and red seabream showed a distinct lipid distribution. ► We cloned two LPL genes from torafugu. ► The relative mRNA levels of PPARγ and LPL1 correlated with lipid content in both fish. Red seabream LPL1 was expressed in adipocytes along the myosepta. ► PPARγ and LPL1 would be important for the species-specific lipid accumulation.
