Genetic diversity among multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains in Mexico

► We analyzed M. tuberculosis isolates collected in Mexico and showed that SIT53 strains are the predominant spoligotype. ► A relatively high genetic variation among these isolates was observed. ► Direct transmission was only identified among two cases.
