Population cytogenetic and molecular evidence for existence of a new species in Anopheles fluviatilis complex (Diptera: Culicidae)

► A new species is reported in the Fluviatilis Complex and provisionally designated as species V. ► Species V was found in district Haridwar, northern India in sympatric association with species T and U. ► The new can be identified by two fixed paracentric inversions in the polytene chromosomes. ► Molecular characterization showed that species V is distinctly different from other species of the Fluviatilis Complex.
