Design of anti-parasitic and anti-fungal hydroxy-naphthoquinones that are less susceptible to drug resistance

► We have designed hydroxy-naphthoquinones that inhibit blood stage P. falciparum. ► The novel hydroxy-naphthoquinones also inhibit liver stage P. berghei. ► One of the new hydroxy-naphthoquinones is effective against atovaquone resistant P. falciparum.
