► Eight genera are recognized. ► Both Parathelypteris s.s and Amauropelta are not monophyletic. ► Stegnogramma is supported and sister to Cyclogramma. ► Pronephrium is polyphyletic. ► The analyses reveal the extremely high levels of homoplastic evolution for several characters.
