Global phylogeny and new classification of the Rapaninae (Gastropoda: Muricidae), dominant molluscan predators on tropical rocky seashores

► Bayesian molecular phylogeny of 80 species (73% of all currently described species). ► A new classification of the Rapaninae: we assign 109 species to 28 genera. ► A new genus is described. ► Many familiar genera are restricted or redefined; Thais is monotypic. ► Rapaninae date from the Late Cretaceous, but most of the genera to the Miocene.
