Ancient drainages divide cryptic species in Australia's arid zone: Morphological and multi-gene evidence for four new species of Beaked Geckos (Rhynchoedura)

► Genetic patterns of geckos across Australia's arid zone reflect ancient topography and drainage divides. ► We generated a phylogeny based on 3.1 kb of nuclear and mtDNA data. ► ML, Bayesian and coalescent-based species-tree inference largely resolve the species tree. ► Morphological data corroborates the molecular results. ► We describe four new species of Beaked Gecko in the genus Rhynchoedura.
