Hyaluronan and dextran modified tubes resist cellular activation with blood contact

► Hyaluronic acid and dextran thin film layers were grafted to PU and PVC tubing. ► Surfaces were characterized using AFM, XPS, ellipsometry and contact angle. ► Blood reaction to surfaces was assessed by platelet aggregometry and flow cytometry. ► Hyaluronic acid coating shows superior reduction of blood activation.
