Influence of size scale and morphology on antibacterial properties of ZnO powders hydrothemally synthesized using different surface stabilizing agents

► ZnO particles from micron to nano-size were prepared using a PVA, PVP and PGA agents. ► Antibacterial properties of the prepared and commercial ZnO powders were studied. ► Particle size and morphology greatly affects the antibacterial activities of ZnO. ► Increase in the SSA of the powders enhances their antibacterial activity. ► Nanospherical ZnO particles show the highest antibacterial activity.
