Reduced limbic metabolism and fronto-cortical volume in rats vulnerable to alcohol addiction

► We used MRI to map brain function and structure in rats prone to alcohol-addiction. ► Rats vulnerable to alcohol-abuse show reduced frontal grey matter and metabolism. ► The effect mapped is consistent with findings in abstinent alcoholics. ► These abnormalities represent a plausible endophenotype of vulnerability to alcoholism.
