Neural processing of overt word generation in healthy individuals: The effect of age and word knowledge

► Novel semantic verbal fluency task was investigated with fMRI in 50 healthy subjects. ► No behavioral differences with regard to age and word knowledge. ► Age was associated with additional recruitment of bilateral inferior frontal gyri and left ACC. ► Word knowledge was negatively correlated with activations in the right superior temporal gyrus.
