Give it time: Neural evidence for distorted time perception and enhanced memory encoding in emotional situations

► In threatening situations time perception is impaired while some memories are enhanced. ► Our findings suggest that distorted time perception and enhanced memory are linked. ► Neuroimaging showed an associated network in prefrontal cortex, amygdala and insula. ► Insula activity correlated with memory performance only during overestimation of time.
