Longitudinal studies of ischemic penumbra by using 18F-FDG PET and MRI techniques in permanent and transient focal cerebral ischemia in rats

► DWI-PWI-MRI and 18F-FDG PET are available and feasible techniques. ► Ischemic lesion based on DWI, PWI deficits is not always detectable after stroke. ► Metabolic activity measured as 18F-FDG PET allows identifying a salvageable area.
