Functional heterogeneity of conflict, error, task-switching, and unexpectedness effects within medial prefrontal cortex

►Different divisions of mPFC demonstrate functional heterogeneity. ►Error effects localize most strongly to ventral aspects of the dorsal ACC. ►Task-switching effects localizer most strongly to dorsal aspects of mPFC. ►Conflict, task-switching, and errors all strongly activate the rostral cingulate zone. ►Activations in the rostral cingulate zone can be explained by unexpectedness.
