Remembering beauty: Roles of orbitofrontal and hippocampal regions in successful memory encoding of attractive faces

►Attractive faces were remembered better than neutral or unattractive faces. ►Activity in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) increased as a function of facial attractiveness, whereas activity in the hippocampus increased as a function of subsequent retrieval success. ►Functional connectivity between these OFC and hippocampal regions was stronger during the successful encoding of attractive than neutral or unattractive faces. ►Better memory for attractive faces reflects greater interaction between reward-related OFC and memory-related hippocampal regions.
