► We studied connectivity during self-initiated movements in Parkinson's disease (PD). ► The striatum-cortical and striatum-cerebellar connections are weakened in PD. ► The connections between cortico-cerebellar motor regions are strengthened in PD. ► These changes may contribute to the difficulty in self-initiated movements in PD.
