► Sweat is inherently social yet not verbally identified and does not bias anxiety. ► Socially anxious people show reduced orbitofrontal (OFC) response to sweat. ► No such effect is observed in the amygdala. ► An inherent lack of OFC responsiveness to social stimuli may underlie social anxiety.
