Improving tribological behaviour of piston ring-cylinder liner frictional pair by liner surface texturing

► The presence of dimples resulted in decrease in the friction force comparing to honed cylinder liners. ► The beneficial oil pockets effect was mainly evident in conditions of full fluid lubrication. ► Reduction of the coefficient of friction was about twice for full lubrication regime. ► During test the pile-up of the textured specimens were removed, which was reflected by high decrease of the Spk parameter.
