Tribological properties of graphite-like carbon coatings coupling with different metals in ambient air and water

► GLC coating exhibits different tribological properties against metals. ► The differences are highly dependent on adhesions and wear behaviors of the metals. ► GLC coating could show low friction and wear against GCr15 and Ti in air. ► GLC coating is more suitable to machine common metals in water.
