Friction, wear and structure of Cu samples in the lubricated steady friction state

► Friction and wear of Cu-steel pairs were examined. ► Deformation of surface layers was evaluated. ► We find that the hardness of surface layers saturates after sliding. ► Strain localization leads to formation of rotational structure and shear bands.
