Analysis of dilute solid-liquid suspensions in turbulent stirred tanks

► We analyse turbulent solid-liquid flows in stirred tanks by two-phase PIV experiments. ► Effect of particle size and concentration on mean velocity and turbulence levels. ► Turbulence dampening with the smaller particles, enhancement with the bigger ones. ► Reduction of particle settling velocity due to free stream turbulence under specific conditions.
