The removal of particulate matters from the industrial flue gas emitted from various chemical process industries in a techno-econo-enviro manner is very essential to meet the pollution standards. The concentration of particulate matters in and around Indian chemical and metallurgical process plants sometimes overshoots the danger point. It is therefore very essential to remove these pollutants by a low-energy dissipation scrubber. In the present investigation a novel spray-cum-bubble column scrubber has been designed and fabricated by using a twin-fluid atomizer. Experiments were conducted for spray section and bubble section separately and combining both. Experimental result shows that a very high percentage removal of particulate matters is achieved from flue gas without using any additives or pre-treatment. Experimental results were compared with theoretical predicted values with quite good agreement. The results indicate that almost 75–99% removal efficiency of particulates were achieved by using the novel spray-cum-bubbler scrubber.
