Modeling and optimization of sweeping gas membrane distillation

► Sweeping gas membrane distillation process was modeled and optimized by response surface methodology. ► Interaction effects exist between sweeping gas membrane distillation parameters. ► The optimal operating conditions were confirmed experimentally. ► Distilled water was produced by sweeping gas membrane distillation of salt aqueous solution and Mediterranean seawater.
