Treatment of the OUED SMAR town landfill leachate by an electrochemical reactor

► Electrocoagulation of leachate from OUED SMAR (North-Algeria) town landfill. ► Removal of COD, total-N, color and turbidity was satisfactory with 500 A/m2. ► Aluminium was found to be more effective in treating leachate than Iron. ► Iron electrodes are energetically efficient than aluminium. ► Operating cost was 0.47 US$/m3 with Fe electrodes and 0.54 US$/m3 with Al.
