Mechanisms of Bv8-induced biphasic hyperalgesia: Increased excitatory transmitter release and expression

► Bv8 produces a direct and concentration-related release of CGRP. ► Bv8 pretreatment enhances Bv8- or capsaicin-stimulated CGRP release. ► Pretreatment with protein synthesis inhibitors blocks the late phase of Bv8-induced hyperalgesia. ► CGRP and SP are upregulated during the late phase of Bv8-induced hyperalgesia.
