Macrophages play a key role in early blood brain barrier reformation after hypothermic brain injury

► We used liposomal clodronate to deplete monocytes in a murine model of hypothermic brain injury. ► Treatment with liposomal clodronate causes a decrease in macrophage infiltration at the injury site. ► Macrophage depletion leads to delayed reformation of the blood brain barrier after injury.
