Salicylate modulates Hsp70 expression in the explanted organ of Corti

► Salicylate increases the number of Hsp70 transcripts in a short term OC explant cultures. ► The protein level, secretion and localization of Hsp70 in the OC explants are not affected by salicylate. ► Salicylate induces otoprotection in Hsp70-independent way.
