Auditory symptom provocation in dental phobia: A near-infrared spectroscopy study

► We investigated patients suffering from dental phobia and healthy controls. ► Participants were exposed to phobia-relevant, pleasant and neutral sounds. ► We examined neural activation via near infrared spectroscopy. ► Patients displayed increased premotor cortex activation during symptom provocation. ► This might mirror the priming of flight behavior.
