Sustained increase in adult neurogenesis in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus after transient brain ischemia

▶ Transient brain ischemia initiates a prolonged increase in neurogenesis up to 6 months in the rat dentate gyrus. ▶ More newly generated neuroblasts differentiated into mature DG granule cells and most of these granule cells survived at least 6 months in the ipsilateral DG. ▶ More neuroblasts are generated and differentiated into mature granule cells in the ipsilateral DG after longer recovery from ischemia.
